Garmin Mobile XT on Nokia E71 and N95 (Internal GPS supported)

STEP FOUR: Disconnect the phone, and wait few seconds. Go to your applications (on the phone) and look for GMobileXT icon and run the application.

Garmin Mobile XT will start and you should read the agreements and stuff, once you’re done setting the basics, you get few options:

– to buy garmin xt

– to enter your activation key

– to evaluate the trial version

– to use a non garmin gps reciever.

Click the last one (other gps reciever), and then cancel the search for gps devices. Go to “Tools” , go to “Settings”, and open the “About” menu, you’ll get an IMIE code on the about page, note that down!

Now, exit Garmin Mobile XT on your E71 (N95, N95 8BG, N96, N82…)

STEP FIVE: Download the Garmin Mobile XT Unlock Genertor (by JetMouse) on your PC, then run it, and enter the code you noted in the “Unit ID” part and then click on “Generate” (the first one, while the Garmin Mobile XT is selected).

You’ll get a long code, just copy that and past it in a text editor (like notepad) and save the file as SW.UNL (make sure the file is not a txt file!!)

STEP SIX: Connect your phone to your PC again in the Data Transfer Mode, and copy the SW.UNL file you’ve created to your Garmin folder on your phone’s memory card.

Now, you can run Garmin Mobile XT with your phone’s internal GPS!

Have fun travelling!

P.S:  If you need anything on this topic, please go ahead and ask!

Hi, I have successfully done all the step and it is installed inside my phone (E71). However, when I start Garmin, it do a search for GPS device, and then pops up saying that no GPS device found. Seems like it can not find my internal GPS. Please help.

I am at the same stage.
I have followed all of the steps, but after opening garmin xt I go to setting – system – and I can only choose to connect to a “garmin gps device”
There is no option to use the e71’s internal gps receiver
Can anybody help me with this?

STEP FOUR says…
Click the last one (other gps receiver), and then cancel the search for gps devices.

@mrjdm: You can purchase the maps you need from the Garmin’s website.
The keygen can be found through your favorite search engine I think. Once you purchased the Garmin software, you may contact the support department to get more help.
Use search engines to find out where you can get Garmin products. Some links are provided to Garmin’s website here, but you can find more.

I got the same problem. Can someone help me pls?

I think that you didn’t copy SW.UNL document to your mem card into the Garmin directory… and if you did you should go to office-file mgr-garmin (it is on your mem card) and find SW.UNL doc. If your sw.unl doc has ‘txt’ on the end you should rename it into SW.UNL
I have same problem and I did this and after that I found internal gps

Garmin does not work on my Nokia E71 the error message no GPS device found, I change the settings to built in gps still get the message no GPS device found please help

@Daniel, Icy Cat: follow ALL the steps while installing the Garmin Mobile XT, then restart your phone, then in the phone, go to “Menu>Tools>Settings>General>Positioning>Positioning methods” and enable the positioning method you like, all are recommended, but be careful about network based and assisted GPS as they can cost you internet charges.
Then run Garmin Mobile XT and cancel the search for GPS device, and go to Settings > System > GPS and choose the internal GPS option.
Note that you need to have the SW.UNL file placed in your Garmin directory on your memory card.

Hi, The only GPS tab i see there is ( Remote GPS ) and if you select that one you have to options 1.Pair New GPS and 2nd. Garmin GPS Devices only. so which one do i select. ?
Thank you

Hi Gi,
Thanks for the tutorial, however, may I know if this is chargeable by my Telco?
It seems that when my phone is Barred, it will prompt out something like “Awaiting Better GPS Accuracy”, and it even said this is assisted GPS.
Can you let me know if I can find stand alone GPS application for my E71?

@Anep: If you use Assisted GPS, you might be paying to your telco (telephone company or operator), but it might take around 5 minutes to recieve a clear and accurate GPS signal, so you should wait.
GPS options can be modified in your phone’s main menu : “Menu>Tools>Settings>General>Positioning>Positioning methods”
@Mr L: Yes, it should work.

Why can’t it upload tracks and waypoints to mapsource? Is this not possible? Thanks

I am using this on my nokia E71x and is working well. I like nokia maps 3.0 beta better though. i use a 4 gb which is enough for apps and music and image. Videos or movies are on a 16gb card.

I followed all the instructions till putting the SW.UNL file on the Garmin directory…still doesnt recognise the GPS device on my E71…what’s up????

Hi there! Thanks for the instructions
I’ve installed Garmin Mobile XT and got everything to work by following your steps.
I just have no idea how to get the maps. I am confused!
Any ideas?

hi my garmin mobile tx dose not have o Settings > System > GPS and choose the internal GPS option and can you send me video tutorial

Hi,
I have a N95 8Gb and Garmin Mobile XT. It’s a bit slow on the internal GPS but usable.
My problem is that I now have a bluetooth headset (bought specifically to use the GPS function on my motorbike) – as soon as I start MobileXT it disconnects the bluetooth headset. Turn MobileXT off and the headset reconnects and works fine for calls and music.
It’s the same on my old iPaq as well – start the GPS software (iGo 6) and the bluetooth headset has no sound. It’s connecting via an external bluetooth gps receiver.
Any thoughts on this?

Has anyone tried using this phone in an EDGE data network area, if so, how was the speed of the browser on it, and if you also tried streaming video with, how was it with doing that? The reason I want to know is, I’m not in a AT&T 3g area, just EDGE. I’m trying to hold off to see if they will release a similar phone, but on Verizon’s CDMA network, since I believe Verizon has 3g in my area, but this phone just keeps tempting me with each positive review I read about it.
